‘Coming to this conference complemented my practical learnings during my preceptorship at the Hammersmith Hospital very well.
It’s great to have a conference with a focus on CML only. I especially like the interactive poster walks at this meeting where the audience asks so many questions’
(Dr Pavcovic, Macedonia)
Marica Pavcovic’s attendance at the John Goldman Conference on CML in Estoril in 2017 was supported by the iCMLf Goldman Fund. At a ceremony shortly after the opening of the conference, she received a certificate from the iCMLf chairman, Professor Tim Hughes.
As a charitable foundation it is only through grants and donations that the iCMLf can positively influence the lives of patients with CML in regions where this assistance is most needed. The mission of the iCMLf is to improve the outcomes for patients with CML globally. The programs and activities implemented to achieve this would not be possible without the generous contributions from our sponsors.

The iCMLf has established a special fund in honour of Professor John Goldman for people wanting to give a donation to the foundation in his memory. John Goldman was one of the co-founders and a visionary of the International CML Foundation. His legacy will live on through the direction set by his leadership as chairman and it is in his honour we continue to improve the lives of people living with CML worldwide through various programs.
The ‘Goldman Fund’ will be used specifically for the training of young CML clinicians and scientists from the emerging regions. This was something that John was passionate about.
The Goldman Fund supports young physicians to attend and present their work at the annual John Goldman Conference on CML. Speakers at this premier CML meeting present the newest and often unpublished data that relate to the biology of CML and aspects of CML treatment. Having the opportunity to attend is of great benefit to physicians and scientists in the field of CML. Using the Goldman fund to support people from the emerging regions to this meeting gives them access to the latest advances and ideas in the management of CML along with opportunities to build lasting, constructive networks with colleagues from around the world.
In 2015 two physicians from Nigeria and Ukraine came to the meeting in Estoril and presented their work to the CML community. It was also a great opportunity for them to listen to the scientific sessions on the biology and management of CML and to get in touch with key opinion leaders in the field of CML.
‘I thank iCMLf for providing me the opportunity to participate in the 18th John Goldman Conference. I got a chance to listen to international experts, to see what approaches they are following and how they are managing their patients. This meeting has greatly enhanced my knowledge on CML and given me so many new ideas to better help my patients in home town, both from the diagnostic and the management point of view’.
(Dr Zaidi, Pakistan)
Uzma Zaidi was supported by the iCMLf Goldman Fund to attend the John Goldman Conference on CML in Houston in 2016. She also undertook a 4-week clinical preceptorship at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston directly after her attendance at the meeting.
‘The main issue in Pakistan is to get access to regular monitoring for my patients.
I am hoping to learn some diagnostic techniques during the preceptorship and to improve my skills and knowledge in terms of diagnosis and biology of CML. This will help me to find solutions for my patients’.
